Home › Events › Indian Exhibits at Israel Museum’s Exposition on Jewish Wardrobe

Ambassador Jaideep Sarkar visited the Israel Museum’s new exhibition Dress Codes: Revealing the Jewish Wardrobe on March 25, 2014 (seen in the picture with the curator Efrat Assaf-Shapira). The exhibition features several items from India dating from the 19th and early-20th century, including festive outfits. To be on display until October 25, 2014, the exhibition seeks to explore the influence of local traditions on costumes of Jewish communities around the world, and the associated symbolic meanings. The Museum also has, on its permanent display, a Jewish bridal costume from Cochin and a reconstructed 16th century Cochin synagogue, apart from several other items from India.
